Modeling the Subdistribution of a Competing Risk
نویسندگان
چکیده
Competing risk failure time data occur frequently in medical studies, and a number of methods have been proposed for the analysis of these data. To assess covariate effects, a standard approach is to model the cause-specific hazard functions of different failure types. Recently, Fine and Gray (1999) proposed directly modeling the subdistribution of a competing risk with a Cox type model. In this paper, we consider a more flexible and general hazard model for the subdistribution. It is a combination of the additive model and the Cox model and allows one to perform a more detailed study of covariate effects. Inference procedures are developed for estimation of both parametric and nonparametric components of the model, and the asymptotic properties of the proposed estimators are established. Robust variance estimates along with some goodness-of-fit test procedures are also presented, and the prediction of the cumulative incidence function is discussed. The proposed methodology is applied to a set of competing risk data from a bone marrow transplant study.

Comparison of Random Survival Forests for Competing Risks and Regression Models in Determining Mortality Risk Factors in Breast Cancer Patients in Mahdieh Center, Hamedan, Iran
Introduction: Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women worldwide. Patients with cancer may die due to disease progression or other types of events. These different event types are called competing risks. This study aimed to determine the factors affecting the survival of patients with breast cancer using three different approaches: cause-specific hazards regression, subdistri...

Background and Objective: Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common malignancy in children, accounting for about a quarter of all malignancies. This study aimed to identify the prognosis of patients with relapsed acute lymphoblastic leukemia in Dr. Sheikh Hospital in Mashhad from 2006 to 2015 using competing risk models. Materials and Methods: Patients with ALL from March 2006 to...
متن کاملMethods of competing risks analysis of end-stage renal disease and mortality among people with diabetes
BACKGROUND When a patient experiences an event other than the one of interest in the study, usually the probability of experiencing the event of interest is altered. By contrast, disease-free survival time analysis by standard methods, such as the Kaplan-Meier method and the standard Cox model, does not distinguish different causes in the presence of competing risks. Alternative approaches use ...
متن کاملThe importance of censoring in competing risks analysis of the subdistribution hazard
BACKGROUND The analysis of time-to-event data can be complicated by competing risks, which are events that alter the probability of, or completely preclude the occurrence of an event of interest. This is distinct from censoring, which merely prevents us from observing the time at which the event of interest occurs. However, the censoring distribution plays a vital role in the proportional subdi...
متن کاملIntroduction to Competing Risk Model In the Epidemiological Research
Background and aims: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a public health challenge worldwide, with adverse consequences of kidney failure, cardiovascular disease (CVD), and premature death. Chronic kidney disease leads to the end stage of renal disease (ESRD), if late/not diagnosed. Competing risk modeling is a major issue in Epidemiology research. In Epidemiology study, sometimes inappropriate met...
